| Design team taps WKU student
A college senior from Western Kentucky has been selected to work on a global design project to create a wind-powered water purifier to benefit impoverished areas that lack electricity. Zach Pearl, who is studying mechanical engineering at Western Kentucky University, is part of the five-member team contributing to the project from around the world. "Something like this could possibly be used where there isn't a safe source of drinking water," Pearl said. "This could save lives." The research is still in early stages, he said, but the group is using computer-generated conceptual drawings to examine the possibility of harnessing wind power. It's not Pearl's first attempt to design a water purification system. Last year he was part of a team that created a water purification system powered by pedals on a bicycle.

The few but high-quality jade articles used as burial objects may symbolize another type of funeral of the Liangzhu Culture. The southern part of Jiangsu Province where Gaochengdun is located is a very important region on the Lake Taihu Culture rim. The discovery of the site shows that the position of the southern part of Jiangsu in the Liangzhu Culture cannot be neglected. It may represent another center similar to the important position of the Ningzhen and Shanghai Fuquanshan areas. 2. Relics at Wanfabozi of Tonghua, Jilin Province. The excavation covers an area of more than 6,000 square meters. The site has rich cultural accumulations, covering the period from the Neolithic Age to the Shang and Zhou, the periods of Spring and Autumn and the Warring States, the Western Han, the Wei and Jin and the Ming dynasties.
Finance, not politics, remains biggest hurdle to nuclear power
They point to the way that wind power generation obtains incentives through the Renewable Obligation, a scheme that places a mandatory requirement for UK electricity suppliers to source more electricity from renewable generation capacity. EDF and Eon reject claims that this means they want the UK guarantees a minimum price for power, although privately both firms are pushing as hard as they can for a mechanism to come close to this. And while EDF and Eon, the most likely candidates to proceed with a replacement fleet of between four and 10 reactors, insist they are confident the economics of nuclear power can be made to work in Britain without direct aid or subsidy, there are many consultants sceptical that any reactors be built without direct government help. Jerry Taylor and Peter Van Doren, two senior fellows at the Washington DC-based libertarian thinktank the Cato Institute, say they are rarely in tune with the Green movement but on the issue of atomic power they have common cause.

I have been a customer for over 25 years and am a bit upset that we are not receiving official records for Kootenai County anymore, but instead for Spokane County. My interest is in Kootenai County and what is happening in our neighborhoods and at our courts. It seems that there is very little coverage of our area by your paper anymore, not what I am wanting to purchase daily. I have conferred with others and they are upset also. Please advise if this is a permanent change and if it is, all I have spoken with will be canceling their subscriptions too. Sad for all/Jacqui. Answer: In response to complaints about the disappearance of the Idaho public records in our newspaper, we're working on a solution. We believe we'll be able to publish them in our weekly zoned editions -- the Handle Extra and the Post Falls Voice.
Suspensions leave Lawrence young
Longtime assistant coach Charlie Jucius filled in as head coach. "I was wondering what kind of effort the kids were going to (give). They went out there and played as tough as they can play," Jucius said. "They're up against a good team, but they gave it everything they had." Lawrence scored the first four points of the game, but Hampden took the lead midway through the first quarter and never relinquished control. "It was a situation where, to be honest with you, I didn't know what to expect. I just told our kids I wanted to make sure we played hard. We tried to do the things we normally do," Hampden coach Russ Bartlett said. "I thought the Lawrence kids represented their school very well tonight, and their program. I'm sure Coach McGee is very proud of the way they played." Juco led the Broncos' balanced offense with 10 points, while Nate Burke and Brad Haase each scored nine.
