Kris Tibbs, senior research analyst for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, said hotel occupancy typically runs in the 95 percent to 96 percent range during the three-day weekend. Tibbs said the tourism bureau was not aware of any event that would keep Las Vegas resorts from experiencing similar numbers this weekend. Last year, the convention authority said the nongaming economic impact on Las Vegas during Presidents Day weekend was $208 million, exclusive of gaming. Tibbs said the figure has grown annually. All I have seen of that show is some previews … but we don't need that kind of garbage on any of our stations," said Marian Elaine Thompson of Wichita Falls. She was among a number of television viewers who are angry that a show based on the premise of a sociopathic serial killer would be aired on network television. It is the first time a full season of a premium cable drama is making the transition to network television, a move made by CBS as a result of the recent Writers Guild of America strike that brought TV programming to a standstill. “You wonder why our kids are so violent, and they get that on the TV … You're giving them ideas that they wouldn't come up with on their own," said Thompson, whose children are already grown. “Dexter and similar programs are just … it's just inexcusable." Mike DeLier, general manager of KAUZ-TV, the local CBS affiliate, said that he, too, hadn't seen the Showtime series until he previewed it recently, soon after CBS made the decision to air it in an attempt to revitalize TV programming that had been relegated to re-runs because of the strike.

This book comes to me in an unusual way. I received an email from the publisher and editor asking if I'd be willing to review BIND 9 DNS Administration Reference Book. Ok, that's not unusual. In fact, it happens to me all the time. What is unusual is that I'd never heard of Reed Media Services before. One reason is that they seem to be a smaller publishing house that was originally started to "print newsletter publishing, online publishing (including related software design), and providing related internet hosting services". The other reason is that they've only produced two books thus far (The OpenBSD PF Packet Filter Book is the other one).

General Mills says it's recalling about 5 million frozen pizzas due to possible E. coli contamination. The pizzas are sold nationwide under the Totino's and Jeno's labels. General Mills says state and federal authorities have been investigating 21 E. coli cases in 10 states. Nine of the 21 people reported eating Totino', ;s or Jeno's pizza with pepperoni topping at some point, before becoming ill. The voluntary recall covers pizzas with pepperoni produced since July, when the first of the E. coli cases occurred. The company asks consumers to throw away the recalled pizzas.
